Features and Performance
Within a few clicks you can program the machine to turn on and off at particular times, change from reservoir to plumbed operation, and instruct the machine to backflush itself. Another major upgrade from the MN version is the DUO DE’s volumetric brewing capability, which is our favorite feature. You can program four different shot volumes or brew manually, because Bezzera is all about options and we are here for it.
They also let you choose between plumbed and reservoir operation, and, another new addition, choose which boiler has priority during heat up. Or, you could just program your DUO DE to turn on automatically before you wake up so it’s ready to help you face the day as soon as you wake up.
The Bezzera DUO DE features the same automated preinfusion as found on the Matrix DE model, and operation is the same. Brewing is easy using the intuitive push button and toggle operation; each function designated by a stylized icon. Steaming too, the DUO DE’s rosewood steam knob toggles on for powerful steaming, and flipping it up locks it into place for an uninterrupted stream.
We’ve found that you can get really amazing shots just pressing one of those brew buttons if you take the time to dial in the preinfusion and shot times. Of course, you can also brew manually and experiment as is your wont.

I have used this machine both plumbed and unplumbed. For unplumbed usage, I’d say it’s perfect. Attractive, robust design, good usage of electronics (but not over-used), great coffees. Please get this and not the manual (“MN”) version. The latter is a semi-automatic that requires you to manually know when to stop your shot. The DE however is a volRead more about review stating Perfect, but only for non-plumbed usageumetric unit, so if you calibrate it to produce, say 30 mL, then it will pump out 30 mL and stop. Irrespective of whether the coffee is ground finer or coarser. This is a real boon to the barista.
For plumbed use, however, I would barely give it three stars. Why? The reason is that the drain system was designed by someone who did not know what they were doing. The water goes through a fitting with a very small inner diameter, but to make matters worse, it makes a sharp 90º turn. How is it ever not going to get plugged up by the solids in the waste stream??? Well, as I can tell you from experience, not only will it get plugged up, but it will get plugged up often. Just to show who’s boss?! And the drain won’t even work at all unless you have a very straight path down with your drain tube.

Was a big upgrade going from our tried and true Gaggia Classic to this Bezzera DUO DE, but soooo worth it. I’ve had it along with new Ceado E37J grinder for just shy of 2 months now. Based on my grinder count I’ve made right at 300 latte’s so far. I was debating between this unit and several other machines…very happy with what I ended up with.Read more about review stating Simply Amazing Machine

Showed up quickly, on a pallet, in a semi… All was good, packaged very well and no issues.
Thoughts on the machine:
It’s incredibly quick and easy. Can whip out a couple latte’s for me and the wife in no time. Started off using water reservoir, but now have it direct plumbed. The water reservoir is really good size so even if you don’t direct plumb it, it’s not bad. Was able to dial it in very quickly. Setting the volumetric shot buttons was pretty easy, but took a couple tries to get it right. Can easily froth and pull shots at the same time. At least with my frothing pitcher, I need to have enough milk for two latte’s for the steam wand to reach far enough in the pitcher to do hands free frothing. But if only doing enough milk for one, it would froth to 150 degrees too quick to do hands free anyway…
Love the on/off timing. It’s always ready when I walk out to the shop in the morning.
All in all, great machine that’s easy to use and makes quick work of making amazing espressos.

I have had the machine for about a week, and I am very impressed with the quality of materials, the level of craftsmanship in construction, and of course the quality of espresso I am able to turn out with this machine. I still like my Rancillio Silvia; it is a good machine; but it really can’t hold a candle to this one.
