ECM Elektronika II Profi Switchable Espresso Machine
ECM Elektronika II Profi Switchable Overview
When the ECM Elektronika II Profi Switchable was revealed to us, we were immediately intrigued by it’s preference for automatic controls. Dedicated volumetric brewing buttons are something you don’t really see in the prosumer market, where manual control is key. However, considering ECM’s philosophy on innovative design, it’s no surprise something so bold could arrive.
Features and Performance
With the Elektronika II Profi, you can expect ECM’s signature features: dual-pressure gauges, an E61 group, joystick water valve controls, and a sleek housing with rounded edges. The rotary pump works in combination with the Elektronika II’s sound-absorbing design to make brewing nearly silent as well.
However, the real convenience is found in the array of volumetric controls, which automatically dispense pre-programmed volumes of espresso and can be reprogrammed to your preference. We’ve found this to be especially handy when making lattes; just press a button to brew and forget while you get to work steaming your milk.

We have owned ours for two years now and I will say without debate… This machine is wonderful! It looks fantastic and functions even better. Easy to clean as well. I love having the option to use the built in water tank vs plumbed in. We take it with us on our trips so we can use it any time.

Amazing machine! Perfect brewing and extraction. No PID to set and really not needed. This is a huge upgrade from the Bezzera BZ07

I’ve had this machine for about 8 months now, so it’s safe to say, no problems, and let’s get on with the review…
First, the machine is quite an attention-getter; it’s big, bold and beautiful. There’s also no chance of it moving around on the counter accidentally with regular use, it weighs in at a serious 85 lbs, and has good an sticky feetRead more about review stating Great Machine!! It screams quality. It is much quieter and smoother operating than my previous Saeco Magic Plus, lol! But I won’t knock that machine because it worked faithfully and problem-free for over 10 years. I just wanted to finally have a machine that would brew a First Class espresso or cappuccino! With this machine however, for creating anything worthwhile, it takes some time to get the doses, and grinds just right. If you switch out your coffees a lot instead of settling on one type, you will constantly be adjusting your doses and grinds, so I only use two kinds and marked my grinder’s adjustment gears for when I switch. Oh, I bought the ECM manual grinder with it, also. I had been in touch with the tech folks trying to adjust the overpressure on it; several of ECM’s other machines have a quick access adjustment screw. Not so with the Electronika, it’s buried in the heart of the machine. You have to remove half the top, the back, and the right panel to even find it, then it’s difficult to reach. I gave up. It brews at only about 9-9.5 bar, I wanted it higher to have the ability to speed up the pour when smaller grinds and larger doses are used. Just be able to experiment a little. So I just had to adapt to the machine. Since I was inside the machine, I can verify the inner quality, it’s very good; almost all copper, brass and stainless parts with very good quality welds at the connections. As for performance? It really makes a fantastic cup of coffee, very rich, smooth, great consistency of crema, so much more amazing than lesser machines. You will see what you are missing, I promise!
