Mazzer Mini P Espresso Grinder

Owning the Mazzer Mini P Espresso Grinder

The Mazzer Mini P is a step up in aesthetics from the standard Mazzer Mini. Its polished finish is meant to match up with polished prosumers, for seamless integration into any coffee bar. Just like the Mini, the Mini P is compactly designed with small spaces in mind, because limited counter space should never decide the quality of your grind, and, by extension, your espresso. Its surprisingly quiet high-performance motor won’t get bogged down from high use in a cafe setting, but the short hopper is specially crafted for home. We find the Mazzer impressive and simple to use with its single electronic control being a timer dial that can be twisted to grind up to sixty seconds worth of espresso. Like the standard Mini, the grounds are deposited into the Mini P’s doser, which can be adjusted to dispense anywhere from 5.5 to 9 grams into the portafilter with a pull of a lever. Those grounds can then be easily tamped with the doser’s built-in tamper. Both the doser and its built-in tamper are designed with high-speed scenarios in mind, where you want to be able to quickly grind and tamp for several drinks in a row. We love it around the office for this fact alone, and think it would be excellent in an entertainer’s home.

The Mazzer Mini P’s 58mm stainless steel burrs are stepless, meaning they can essentially be adjusted infinitely by turning the collar in small amounts. The Mini P is capable of producing coarse or fine grinds, though, in the case of stepless grinders, we recommend commiting to espresso or other fine grinds, in order to avoid serious dialing in before every use. The burrs are easy to access for cleaning, and calibrating them afterward is simple, too. If you’re not a fan of the polish finish, but you love the design, the standard Mini is something to consider; or, if you want to drop the doser and gain some programmability, take a look at the Mini Type A or B.

The Mazzer Mini does a better job than the grinder at Starbucks and a local roaster. I use a French Press and a Stove Top Moka so I grind both expresso and drip brew grind. The grind on the courser setting is more consistent than I was getting at both Starbucks and a local Roaster. It also does a much better job on course grounds than the RancilioRead more about review stating Grind is as good as it gets Rocky. I removed the finger guard to make it easier to clean after grinding. I find it easier to clean the Mazzer Mini than the Doserless Rocky. The plastic chute on Rocky is harder to sweep clean than the Mini, plus the Mini (because of the doser) does not create as much “dust” around the grinder.

I have been totally pleased with this grinder, does a nice job on espresso grinds. Very easy to use and is a well made machine.

I had a Gaggia MDF and found it just wasn’t very repeatable. With the Mazzer, every time I roast a batch, I only have to make small adjustments to accommodate differences in the roast. Usually, within one or two shots I’m dialed in for the rest of the hopper full. I have had it for 5 years and had no problems. I grind about 8 oz a week, clean twicRead more about review stating Key for consistent espressoe a year. lI is true that the doser only works if you have a full hopper, which you wouldn’t want for home use. However, the doser does make it easy to fill the portafiliter and make smalll adds without having to use a spoon and make a mess. I fill by eye but use an Espro spring-loaded tamper to get the pressure right. Works for me! And this machine will probably still be grinding when I’m cold in the ground — I only wish my car was so well built.
