The Profitec Pro 500 PID follows in the footsteps of other machines from Profitec with tremendous performance and distinguished build quality without compromising on simplicity. The Pro 500 boasts commercial-grade parts and professional aesthetics while still managing to be easy-to-use. The updated version of the Pro 500 PID offers a level of performance we’ve seen in much more expensive machines and introduces a now visible PID and shot timer and striking new black pressure gauges.
Features and Performance
With the Pro 500 PID, you’ll get a heat exchanger machine that brews with a 2L stainless steel boiler and a powerful 1400W heating element. The boiler is complemented nicely by the iconic E61 brew group, but the PID control is the real showstopper here.
In combination with the engineered thermosyphon system in the E61 group, the Pro 500 PID lends a level of temperature stability previously unheard of in a heat exchanger espresso machine. The need for cooling flushes is eliminated, removing a considerable limitation from this class of espresso machine. When set to a temperature of 256° Fahrenheit, pressure stabilizes for near indefinite steaming while eliminating the necessity of a cooling flush under most circumstances.
With the 2022 update of the Pro 500, Profitec has moved the PID temperature display to make it easier to view. Before, the display was hidden behind the drip tray, but now it’s on the face of the machine. This will help you make sure your espresso machine is set at the correct temperature so you can brew with all of the exact settings that you want. In addition, the PID display now doubles as a shot timer and allows you to easily change other settings such as the programmable eco mode and backflush reminders.

When I ordered my machine, I wasn’t paying close enough attention and ordered the non-flow control version. I got ahold of harfan coffee and asked if they could fix my screw up. (both models were same price during special discount)

Awesome machine. Love that the PID display is visible and works as a shot timer. Comes out of the box with a bottomless and double portafilter which is great. 5 stars!

Compared to the Flair that I jumped from, the workflow is awesome. Get a remote/timer socket to pre-heat. And lots of microfiber towels.
Can’t provide any input outside of that as this is my first machine, so here are nitpicks instead:
– The supplied double basket doesn’t fit the double spouted portafilter. Not sure if this is a Read more about review stating shinycommon issue.
– Some of the parts where the metal was cut are sharp. Not enough to cut you, but does feel out of place. Such as the short sides of where the tank goes, the bottom of the drip tray, etc. The holes for the drip tray and heating tray are nicely rounded, save for the part where you stick your fingers in to pick up the tray.
– Access to the OPV could be better, maybe put it where the PID used to live?
