Rocket Espresso Giotto Cronometro R Espresso Machine
Rocket Espresso Giotto Cronometro R Overview
The Cronometro R is a heat-exchange espresso machine and features a near-silent rotary pump, and can be plumbed directly into a water line to bypass the reservoir and cut out all those trips to the sink. The Cronometro version of the Giotto features a hidden shot timer just above the power switch with a digital readout that appears when the pump is activated and disappears when it’s off, blending in with the stainless steel housing.
Features and Performance
Rocket was one of the first manufacturers to incorporate a PID into their heat exchangers, though it has now become an industry standard on high-end HXs, and it just goes to show their commitment to innovation. The PID is hidden behind the drip tray so as not to distract from the machine’s intricate design, and it can be adjusted across four settings to accommodate different roast styles.
They’re also one of only a handful of manufacturers to make adjustments to the E61 group, which circulates water from the boiler through the group to aid in temperature stability and is a staple on most prosumer machines. Rocket integrated a dual pre-infusion system, consisting of a mechanical working piston which works progressively within a static pre-infusion chamber for fully saturated, crema-rich extractions.
The PID controller keeps temperature stable to the degree, and, once combined with this thoughtfully redesigned group, the Giotto Cronometro R is equipped to deliver consistent shots. Though it’s a small change, we’re a big fan of the blackened gauges on the Cronometro R version, and think it adds to our impression that this is a lean, mean, brewing machine.
Internally, similar to the Cronometro V, the Giotto Cronometro R houses a large 1.8 L copper boiler and 1200 watt heating element, and integrated sensors monitor the boiler and reservoir levels for low volumes, alerting you and, if necessary, shutting off automatically so as not to let the boiler run dry. Of course, plumbing the machine in eliminates this problem altogether, and allows you to use an inline filtration system to purify water to aid in espresso taste and machine longevity. The Cronometro R also features the same height adjustable feet and no-burn steam wands as it’s counterpart.

Dorián Takács –
This machine replaces an 15 or so year old Giotto I am enjoying the many improvements.

If there were more starts, I would give them. Coffee was great from the second shot (threw away the first, of course), and it is quieter than its vibrating pump equivalent.

First to start, we freaking love this machine! We moved up from a Breville Barista Express after a little over a year, I was stuck between this and the Profitec Pro 700, and the Rocket won (I love the extra branding BTW). I have zero regrets as this this is a gem! Out of the box we had some issues that I’m going to say was user error, we plugged tRead more about review stating NEXT LEVEL!his into a smart switch (which is fine) but then plugged into a multi outlet adapter. Once we plugged it into the gfi on its own it was fine, but we did have to figure it out on our own as WLL took 11 days to respond to our service ticket. I did purchase this during black Friday so I’m sure they were extremely busy, and I have no regrets purchasing from WLL, once Todd Salzman got back to me via phone and email he answered all my questions and I’m satisfied with WLL’s customer service.
I bought this machine, with a Acacia Lunar scale, and a bunch of extras like 2 bottomless portafilters, 2 spouted portafilters, new ims baskets, ims shower screen, and all for a price of 3k. I saved $600 on this deal which was a big reason I went with Rockets Giotto Cronometro R even though I could of bought any other brand and got the $200 scale for free!
The shots we pull from this beast are like we never had espresso before, I didn’t know there could be that big of a difference from the Breville. It does take time to warm up so I do recommend hooking it into a smart switch, which can be scheduled to turn on/off whenever you want. The walnut upgrade is a must for us, it just sets this thing apart and is a major eye catcher. Combined with a great grinder, you can see mine in the photos, you will be making high end espresso drinks for sure. It did take some time to adjust to the power of the steamer but you’ll adjust to your milk being done in 20 seconds. Overall I highly recommend Whole Latte Love, and ROCKET espresso machines, we are happy customers!
