Eureka Mignon Specialita Espresso Grinder in Polished Natural Silver

Eureka Mignon Specialita Overview

The Eureka Mignon Specialità is an all purpose grinder with 55 mm flat hardened steel burrs that give it the highest output in Eureka’s Mignon range. The touch screen display is a stand out feature for a grinder so small, making adjustment as easy as it should be. With its larger burrs, the Mignon Specialità can produce up to 1.8g of coffee per second for espresso, meaning it can produce a barista quality 18g double shot in as little as 10 seconds.

Features and Performance

First of all—the touch screen. We’re thrilled with how intuitive it is. It’s vibrant, with a large font size and clean controls. Grind time is adjustable in tenths of a second using the “+” and “-” buttons, and you can freely switch between single and double shots. Also, you can switch to a manual mode for continuous grinding, or lock in your timed settings to keep other people from fiddling.

For performance, it’s equipped with 55 mm flat hardened steel burrs and a strong 1350 RPM motor with an output of 1.4 – 1.8g/s for espresso and 1.9 – 2.5g/s for brew. Eureka’s ACE system helps prevent clumping by eliminating static in ground coffee, which in turn ensures dose consistency.

It’s quiet, measuring in at about 73 dBA, so you won’t ever need to stop a conversation to make your drinks. It brings Eureka’s patented micrometric adjustment, so you expect smooth, stepless adjustments when dialing in the grind. Plus, the portafilter holder fork is adjustable to work with any portafilter on the market.

Why You Should Get It

The Mignon Specialta is a superb espresso grinder, with it’s quiet grinding and touchscreen controls. The micrometric grind adjustment knob is one of the easiest ways to make very fine changes to grind size that we’ve experienced, as well. Plus, with a height of under 14 inches, this coffee and espresso grinder will fit just about anywhere. If you’re looking for a compact, espresso-focused grinder, this is the one for you.

Context: upgraded from a Breville Barista Express to this grinder and a Profitec Pro 300 machine.

Significant improvement in grind quality. Much more consistent, more adjustable, much better flavor, and much quieter. Grinds an 18 gram dose right around 7.5 seconds. The adjustment dial was zeroed appropriately, and it took roughly five shoRead more about review stating Great grinder!ts to dial in after unboxing – two shots that clogged the basket, one gusher, one slow and bitter, and the fifth tasted better than the shot I bought from the cafe that supplied the beans.

Dose is consistent enough, and I haven’t been bothered with retention. On the BBE, I single dosed every shot using a 3D printed hopper with bellows – the grind was so inconsistent it was the only way to ensure any consistency. On the mignon, I printed a single dose hopper and bellows and have yet to feel the need to swap out the stock hopper. Every few days I pull out the scale and weigh the dose, and each time it’s accurate plus or minus 0.2 grams – close enough for me. This has really improved my morning ritual and removed what was otherwise unnecessary complexity in my espresso routine. Less math homework, more delicious espresso.

A few small gripes. The adjustment knob is small. Too small for fine adjustments. I’m printing a larger knob for it as I write this review. The portafilter holding fork is sharp and unfinished. I wish they’d sand down the edges at the factory before I sliced myself up installing it, especially considering what they charge for a replacement.

Overall, very impressed. It appears well built, it works great, and it’s smaller than I expected. Plus, there’s a ton of 3D printed accessories out there on thingiverse – like angled bases to improve single dosing, larger knobs, and single dose hoppers. Cost to performance, is it twice as good as a Facile or half as good as an Atom 75? I don’t know, but I’m satisfied with the results

Iv’e had this grinder for 18 months. Overall pleased. I don’t waste as any beans now that I have a timed grind. I regularly clean the burrs, however after a year the motor would seem to seize/slow. Hmm. Removed the bottom burr (normally I just remove the top to get to the bottom to clean it). Under the bottom burr is just enough space for oil/beanRead more about review stating Great grinder! But make sure you clean it thoughorly. dust to cake up. This mixture was so densely packed in this space it was the obvious source of the problem. After cleaning this out it worked great, and now I take this extra cleaning step about once every 3 or 4 months. FYI – the nut holding the bottom burr assembly is left-hand-thread. Use a small piece of wood dowel (from the front, where the chute assembly is removed) or similar to stop the assembly from spinning while loosening the nut, same for tightening. A bit of fiddling around but necessary.

Wow!!! Had an Ascaso I-Steel before this one, and what a world of difference. Zero retention, very little static, no clumps, and oh so quiet!!!! Dosing settings are awesome and very easy to dial-in. Did I mention how quiet it is??? Very happy, with my purchase. I recommend it to every one who wants to upgrade their existing setup!!!

  4. Cátia Ribeiro

Ordering from HarfanCoffee was quick and painless. I moved from a Breville grinder to this and it is a world of difference! Super quiet and fast. The only complaint I have is, like alot of people have pointed out, the cheapo bean hopper. Come on Eureka! You can do better, me thinks!
